Microsoft Wedge: a duo of keyboard and mouse

It begins with a pleasant surprise: the range Wedge has a good build quality, mixing matte plastic and aluminum.

The two devices have been designed to occupy as little space as possible. The keyboard is simply to maximize the space available: no border around buttons and a compact arrangement similar to that of TypeCover Surface, knowing that the keys are smaller.

The keyboard comes with a rubber cover, original as it not only helps protect the keyboard during transport (and off automatically when the cover is placed on the keyboard), but also fold in half for use as support for tablet. We just hope that the mechanism is tough, which seems to be the case.

The Wedge Touch Mouse is much more surprising and justifies its name, since it physically as a wedge, and hence a flat surface inclined ... No normal for a mouse, tell us! Side view, one could compare it to a pinball machine, which is equally amazing for a mouse.

In short, it will be understood that the goal is a little like the Logitech Cube, to keep at your fingertips. Like the keyboard, however, the small size of the device literally allows its use in a corner office.

Note the attention to detail on the integration of the battery, including the mouse: a button to slide one edge to access.

Wedge operate devices via Bluetooth. Not need dongle, which is the least thing to use tablet. Note that if the keyboard and mouse are designed primarily for Windows (7 and above 8/RT, see below), it was quite possible to use the keyboard on other tablets, and even mouse on an Android tablet.

The Wedge Mouse uses Microsoft BlueTrack Technology, and uses a blue LED and a wide-angle lens to capture images more mixed and uniform surface, thus optimizing its use on more complex surfaces such as carpet or wood that may be useful to use a mouse supposed to be everywhere.

The Wedge Mobile Keyboard is powered by 2 x LR3 (AAA), and Wedge Mouse by one LR6.

Integration with Windows 8/RT back to overview
Despite their compatibility Bluetooth standard, Wedge are obviously designed for Microsoft Windows 8 RT and foremost. The Keyboard Wedge and uses the same keyboard layout as two keyboards Surface, and therefore incorporates shortcuts to four features of the toolbar.

The Wedge Mouse The main advantage of supporting vertical scrolling, but also horizontal, which is useful on the home screen of Windows 8/RT. We would still have thought that Microsoft would include one or two additional gestures to switch between applications. That said it might be tricky on such a small surface.

For use back to overview
The Mobile Keyboard Wedge is rather satisfying to use. It is certainly a small adjustment period to get used to the spacing of the keys almost nonexistent in contrast with most Bluetooth keyboards for tablet and regrets strike a bit soft compared to the Type of Surface Cover. In contrast, the footprint is very significant: the Apple Bluetooth keyboard Logitech Tablet Keyboard, a keyboard for tablet does so little headroom, making the keyboard unusable even in the smallest spaces.

It is obviously more skeptical about the Wedge Mouse at first, and we must admit that in use as a mouse-up, it did the job, again with the advantage of coping with a very small space. The touchpad works as expected, the 2 clicks detected correctly. Nevertheless, you can never quite get this strange device.

The Wedge Wedge Mobile Keyboard and Mouse Touch devices are targeted enough to use: designed primarily for Windows 8 and RT, can doubt their real interest to the extent that most of these tablets are already 2 OS hybrid with a keyboard dock and a trackpad.

However, they can complement the existing devices: Keyboard Wedge the particular, has a very interesting argument, namely its very small footprint compared to its competitors. In addition, the keyboard, compatible iPad or Android (excluding specific shortcut), may appeal to a wider audience than the users of Windows 8. The Wedge Mouse seems more difficult to justify its interest: it is a device certainly original, but meeting a need more focused, and never entirely convincing. Remains ultimately we appreciate the attention paid to the production of the two devices, although their price is quite high (allow about 50 euros for each).
